The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their environment which can result in changes in genes, or even entire genomes. These changes could over generations lead to the creation of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is natural selection, which describes the process through which individuals with advantageous characteristics survive and reproduce more often than those with disadvantages. This variation in reproduction could, over time, lead to the emergence and evolution of new species. The word “evolution” is derived from the Latin word for unrolling or revealing, but the concept itself has a myriad of meanings as it has taken form in the sciences and in other fields. Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predestined to evolve into a different species. The term transmutation was coined by Lamarck's disciple embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire to describe this notion. Charles Lyell, who published the second volume of his Principles of Geology in 1833, attacked this idea and borrowed the term “evolution” from Geoffroy's student to describe the notion that existing species evolve into different species in a gradual and predictable manner. Evolutionary biologists define evolution more recently as a process through which living things develop characteristics to increase their chances of survival or producing offspring. Over time, genetic variability can lead a population to develop new physical characteristics or biological functions. Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers the most evolutionary changes. Non-genetic changes, such as an increase in muscle mass through exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolutionary because they aren't passed on to future generations. Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and a multitude of scientific experiments Creationists have taken advantage of the idea that evolution is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists have won a few victories in their campaign to exclude evolution from high school textbooks, including the removal of any references to the evolutionary history of humans as well as the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur thought to be the ancestor of birds. In fact many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. Some Christians for instance, believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share an ancestral connection to other animals. It is essential that science educators stand up for the teaching evolution. In some countries, the opposition to evolution has been growing. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made headway in a few states. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is pushing for textbook content on the evolutionary history of horses and their Avian ancestor Archaeopteryx. Although these are alarming developments, it is also important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence for evolution comes from many sources, including fossils, genetics, and even the behavior of living creatures. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists. The vast majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this belief vary. Certain scientists study evolution in order to make practical discoveries, such as developing new drugs and other treatments, while others use it to improve the quality of animal and plant species, typically to benefit of humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others have a strong religious belief in God. What is Creationism? Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and all that is in it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. Many creationists are Christians however, not all. Creationists are typically divided into two groups: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists. The most common kind of creationist is called the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the way described in the Bible. 에볼루션게이밍 believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is literal and that the universe and the life on Earth started only recently. OECs are less well known however they are as passionate about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old and that evolution is an untruth. Both kinds of creationism deny the scientific theories that biogenesis and natural selection can explain how life came to be on Earth. They claim that evolution is inconceivable because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern science shunned miracles because they feared they would lose their credibility. Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation. When people think of the concept of creationism most often, they think of the United States. However, South Korea is also the home of an anti-evolutionist movement. The publishers of high school textbooks recently announced that they would remove references to evolution from their books. A group known as the Society for Textbook Revise (STR) is an independent organization that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research, has led the drive. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, called the Archeopteryx. The next step is to take out the finch-research of Darwin's famed as well as on human evolution. STR claims that it has the backing of 4,000 families and members. The goal, according to STR is to cleanse the world of what it calls “atheist materialism” which portrays a negative view for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the country. A survey of the newest biology teachers found that about half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The reasons for this are not clear but could be due to religious beliefs and the lack of full-time creation scientists across the country. The KACR has achieved many things through its lectures and seminar events. It has a bimonthly news magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural sciences that had a creationist perspective. This sparked an interest among college communities. In 1991, a professor, along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught today. On August 7 and 8 the 7th of August 1993, which coincided with the World Expo opened in Daejeon, KACR held a second International Symposium on Creation Research. Six lecturers from abroad including ICR's John Morris and Steven Austin presented to a crowd of more than a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given lectures on the subject of creation science at major seminaries. KACR is planning to create a Creation Science Education Center.
